British GT 2018 from Oulton Park Video and Gallery
Once again over the Easter weekend, the British GT championship held rounds 1 & 2 at a very soggy Oulton Park Circuit. We headed over on Monday-race day to be greeted by a very wet circuit. But like always rain does bring some very good racing, well that is until the race has to be cancelled in the case of Race 2. But race 1 ran, and what a sight it was seeing big GT3, and the smaller GT4 cars hammering around the tight circuit.
The wet weather made for some interesting moments throughout race one, and as can be seen in the images below, not every car got away cleanly. The big winners from race one were the Aston Martin V12 GT3’s, which is damn impressive for a car that is getting on in its racing life now. That’s not to say the newer GT3 racers were not hounding them. The Mercedes AMG GT3 of ERC Sport was only 0.2 seconds away from the second place Aston Martin of Beechdean AMR and had been catching the car for a few laps towards the end of the race. The big story from race 1 was the first female winner of a British GT race with Flick Haigh and former British GT Champion Johnny Adam taking the flag in there Aston Martin GT3.
In GT4, BMW with the new M4 GT4 took a debut podium while Mclaren kicked of there season with a 1-2. Invictus Games Racing with there new Jaguar F-Type GT4’s didn’t fare as well though, the car did look a handful out on the track. Sliding on every turn exit, not the best condition to be debuting a new car and team. But it is one with an inspiring story and one we will be keeping tabs on.
Unfortunately, race 2 was red flagged due to the weather, and that meant by 15:30 the complete race meeting was over as the circuit had become too slippery to really race on, no matter what the car.
As you will see in the image gallery below, we saw some high speed and low-speed incidents along with some well-crafted racing. Check out the Gallery below, and if you haven’t already the pure sound video above.
